Background
This gene encodes a cytoskeletal LIM protein that binds to actin filaments via a domain that is homologous to erythrocyte dematin. LIM domains, found in over 60 proteins, play key roles in the regulation of developmental pathways. LIM domains also function as protein-binding interfaces, mediating specific protein-protein interactions. The protein encoded by this gene could mediate such interactions between actin filaments and cytoplasmic targets. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008],
Function
function:May act as scaffold protein (By similarity). May play a role in the development of the retina. Has been suggested to play a role in axon guidance.,PTM:Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.,similarity:Contains 1 HP (headpiece) domain.,similarity:Contains 2 LIM zinc-binding domains.,similarity:Contains 4 LIM zinc-binding domains.,subcellular location:Associated with the cytoskeleton.,subunit:Binds F-actin. Interacts with ABRA.,tissue specificity:Detected in liver, heart, skeletal muscle, brain and retina, where it is concentrated in the inner segment and in the outer plexiform layers.,
